HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finally heard the demands of its sanitation agent for safety equipment. The civic organization has so far only been able to provide masks and vests with reflective stickers, although sanitation workers have asked GHMC to provide fully equipped safety kits.

In accordance with the solid waste management rules of 2016, notified by the Ministry of the Environment, Forests and Climate Change, local authorities must ensure that all workers handling solid waste are equipped with safety equipment such as as face masks, gloves, a radium jacket, raincoats. , shoes and others.

Although sanitation workers provide essential public services that are essential for the protection of human health, they work without safety equipment. The GHMC will now provide protective equipment such as nasal masks, heavy duty rubber gloves, soaps, disinfectants, coconut oil, radium vests, raincoat, safety shoes, towel cap for the safety cap and a special kit for the current exercise.
