jersey numbers allocated to signatories and 2020 transfers

UGA football today released its updated roster, including jersey numbers for transfers and signing class 2020 signatories.

Finally, the jersey numbers of new UGA football players have been revealed. The team recently released the 2020 digital roster. Now, when the Bulldogs take the field (when they do), fans know what numbers to look for when trying to spot new players.

The most refreshing revelation concerns the numbers of the three new quarterbacks. For most of the 2010s, Georgia’s starting quarterback wore No.11 (Aaron Murray, Grayson Lambert and Jake Fromm). None of the three new passers-by will wear the number. Jamie Newman is No.9, Carson Beck is No.15 and JT Daniels is No.18.

You have to go all the way back to the 1980s to find a starting quarterback with one of these numbers. Wayne Johnson wore No.18 throughout his UGA football career, while Todd Williams wore No.15.

More Dawn of the Dawg

The # 11 passes to quick wide receiver Arian Smith. Jermaine Burton meanwhile has a lot going for him taking No.7 from running back D’Andre Swift. As for the other new receivers, Marcus Rosemy takes # 81 and Justin Robinson wears # 17. Transfer winger Tre ‘McKitty will wear No.87 in his only season as a Bulldog and real freshman Darnell Washington will wear No.0. He is probably the most notable player in school history to wear the # 0.

The two new running backs wear more traditional running back numbers. Kendall Milton is # 22 and Daijun Edwards # 33. The offensive ends with Broderick Jones # 59, Chad Limberg # 78, Tate Retledge # 71 and Sedrick Van Pran # 63.

In defense, returning defensive lineman Julian Rochester trades his No.5 for No.89, his old number switching to true first-year cornerback Kelee Ringo. Cornerback Jalen Kimber is just below him with No.6 and Safety Major Burns inherits No.20 from JR Reed. Of all the freshmen in defense, Burns has the biggest shoes to fill.

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter claims No.88, he is joined on the defensive line by Nazir Stackhouse with No.78. At the second level, MJ Sherman takes # 8, a unique number for a Georgian linebacker.
