The Stanfield Police Department recently announced that its K9 Tango will be receiving a bulletproof and stabbing vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Tango is sponsored by a fundraiser hosted by The Thin Blue Line USA and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Born to Love – Trained to Serve – Loyal Always.” Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
Invested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501 (c) (3) charity whose mission is to provide bulletproof and stabbing vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs and related agencies across the United States. This potentially life-saving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is made in the USA, custom fitted and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Invested Interest in K9s, Inc. has supplied over 4,101 vests to K9s in all 50 states valued at $ 6.9 million, made possible through private and corporate donations.
The program is open to American dogs 20 months of age or older and actively employed and certified by law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s in the United States.
Interest earned in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions of any amount, while a single donation of $ 960 will sponsor a vest. Each vest is valued at $ 1,744 to $ 2,283, weighs an average of 4 to 5 pounds, and comes with a five-year warranty.
