Thrill my shoulder pads! Is Demelza from Poldark doing a Dynasty remake? Eleanor Tomlinson swaps lacy bodices for a loose, zippered top to film scenes from new BBC comedy thriller The Outlaws

As the star of Poldark, Eleanor Tomlinson is more associated with the 1780s than the 1980s.

But the actress has time traveled a few centuries with her extravagant new look – sporty shoulder pads that would rival Joan Collins’ Dynasty soap queen, Alexis Colby.

Tomlinson swapped Demelza’s lacy bodices for the eye-catching blue and green zip top to film scenes from his new BBC comedy thriller The Outlaws in Bristol last week.

In the series, she plays Gabby, an aristocratic social media influencer with a drinking and drug problem.

Her red hair had been pulled together in a sleek bun and her look completed with pleated jeans and silver ankle boots as she filmed at a community center near the River Avon.

The 29-year-old was making the show’s second series – around seven strangers who are forced together to fill a community service order – and relaxed between takes while reading quietly, vape in hand.

“A crew member told me it was her last day of filming,” a spectator told The Mail on Sunday.

“All of the filming took place inside the community center. It took them about three hours to get what they wanted.

“At the end, when Eleanor finished her final scene, the whole team came in and applauded her.

“Someone gave her a bouquet of flowers and I could see her carrying other gifts in her purse.

“They’ve been shooting at the community center for a while and I’ve been told they only have a few more days to go before we finish all of the shoots for the second series.”

The first six-part series of The Outlaws – which also features Hollywood legend Christopher Walken and Richard E. Grant – begins on BBC1 later this month.

It was written by Stephen Merchant, who co-created The Office with Ricky Gervais.

He described Eleanor’s character Gabby as “an aristocratic celebrity whose glamor and leisure life obscures deeply rooted issues,” while Eleanor said: “Gabby is wild and out of control and, without being mean, blissfully oblivious to the lives of others around her, which makes her outrageously funny to play.

According to fashionistas, Eleanor’s outfit in The Outlaws is perfectly in tune with the times. Society magazine Harper’s Bazaar told its readers that ’80s-style jackets with shoulder pads are making a comeback this year.
